Send an old car into space, by rocket or shuttle. Stationary orbit, and remember where you parked. Position it carefully, then let it get pulverized by meteors and other debris. Retrieve. Mount it in front of a museum.

You could use other materials, of course. Even rice paper, for space dust. But people might be more interested in a car than rice paper. If you have Gov't approval, use some old satellite that's already there.

I don't know how much collision insurance you need for a car in space. Better check around for a good rate.

Can't decide on whether to send up a Saturn, a Nova, a Comet, an Olds Rocket 88, an Aurora, a Mercury, or a Galaxy.

I'm hoping you got that retrieval system figgered out. My dad's rather partial to his Galaxy.

Alternatively, are there any pieces of MIR still orbiting, or did it all burn up?

MIR went into the sea, last year -- all of it, I think. I'd love to see one of those bad boys hit the atmosphere.

Sure. The Space Shuttle can grab it and toss it in the cargo bay. There's no cost limit on ideas, I hope. This one's running into the billions. Some French artist is footing the whole bill.

Yet another fine halfbaked idea comes to fruition, only we used a new car complete with driver but no insurance. Might have been a feather in Elon's cap to have sent the car straight to Mars so when our explorers finally get there the surface transportation is ready and waiting.
