"Ladies and gentlemen, we have a new world's record! Hamlet in 5 minutes, 42 seconds!!" (crowd goes wild)

Anybody who's ever gone to a play knows they're pure torture. The only entertaing aspect is seeing how long you can go without looking at your watch to see how long until you get the leave.

But what if there were an exciting aspect to live theater productions that might make them somewhat tolerable? Introducing "Speed Play Theater".

The goal of the players would be to get through the play, that is, reciting every line CLEARLY and to finish as fast as possible shooting for a new record. A graphic at the top of the stage would illustrate a timer bar with the old record shown at the right. As the play proceeds, the bar extends from left to right showing how close they're getting to the old record. If they pass the old one, a foghorn sounds and the play is over. If they beat the record, confetti and band music plays, streamers drop from the ceiling and the new record is flashed on the graphic.

Only after I posted the idea did I find this. https://www.youtube...watch?v=ExKCcndqK5c
II think it's in our DNA to want to get through plays quickly. [doctorremulac3, Jan 29 2020]

Harold Pinter must be spinning in his grave ... abruptly stopping for no apparent reason, then starting again.

Clearly you've never gone to see The Goat, or Who is Sylvia

I probably sold this wrong. I should have said "Everybody loves plays, but what if there were a competition to see how quickly the actors could recite their lines? Wouldn't that be great?"

       Oh well, too late.
