Sand timing for kids playground

The situation where kids need to take turns using toys or an activity, which can done only one at a time, is very common and in many cases requires the intervention of an adult. The idea is to place a sand timer near the popular activity and keep a very simple rule: when the activity is occupied and you want to be next all you need to do is flip the sand timer, and as soon as it's over it's you turn.

A giant sand timer? Filled with yellow sandpit sand?

Why not have a LCD timer display physically in the TOY itself, and the toy will beep when your turn is over.

I 'm trying to figure out why this doesn't strike me as an invention, and I have to admit that I can't.
