Bit hard to describe, the pool queue hits images of balls under the table by reading the angle of the queue and extending an image of the tip to the virtual ball. Picture the balls sticking to the underside of a glass table top, the pool queue tip retracts when you push it into the glass and a representation of the tip at its regular length is created on the image so it's like your pool queue penetrated the glass. So you can hit it low, high, on the side to impart spin etc. Does that make any sense?

Anyway, you hit the ball and it behaves like a regular pool table.

Could even do fun stuff like have it play in slow motion, have the balls explode in flames as they hit each other etc.

Thought about just having the queue ball be some kind of complicated devise that starts and stops with magnets or whatever but not gonna happen, just the moving 3D images is more feasible.

So the linked arcade machine used a real cue and cue ball, but had a screen in the normal arcade machine style position. Also it apparently tracked the cue ball movement to extrapolate the shot rather than the cue itself.

       This is certainly eminently bakeable!

Whoa! Cool link! Reminds me of the golden age of video arcades when I was a kid. Great memories.

I’ve mentioned how I played the first public coin operated video game unveiled at Stanford University when I was a kid. Dad said someday all kids would be playing not just these but smaller ones at home. Waited in line for half an hour, played about 30 seconds of Asteroids (with a simplified USS Enterprise as the missile firing ship) got blown up immediately and they said “NEXT!”.

       Was hooked instantly.

In case anyone hasn't seen these yet. [link] Not your idea but cool nonetheless.

Similar to the other tracer pool table from way back. (links)
