Sit 12 speedy (yet muscial) secretaries round a table. Compose them some fast and flowing rhythms that they can tap out using a set arrangement of their 10 fingers.

One and a one, and a one, two, three, FOUR!....

...tap-tap-tap-tap, tapitapitapitapi, taptap-tap tap-tap tapitty-tap TAP tap TAP tappity-tap TAP!!!

If you're feeling really adventurous, you could make a whole concerto by giving your secretaries different surfaces: wood, plastic, marble, IBM keyboard, or bowls of wobbly jelly!

When I was in Madrid about 25 years ago, groups of Spaniards would walk home from the bars in the wee hours of the morning improvising virtuoso group clapping performances. I don't recall hearing any of this when I was there last year.

<frustrated drummer trapped inside a pianist's body> And how come only secretaries get to join the fun? I want to play, too. </fd>

heh heh, I'm picturing a mini STOMP puppet show with dust bin lids, clogs, etc on their finger tips.

Sounds a lot like 'The Typewriter' by Leroy Anderson. A catchy little tune with a single typewriter operator accompanying an orchestra. Includes keys, the bell and carriage returns to be done properly.

add some visual interest with a little mud pit for indecent thumb wrestling on the side.

[Trying to picture 12 speedy muscial secretaries. For some reason, in my mind, they all look like blissmiss.]

I walk past a drum shop on the way to/fro work. More often than not, I see the attendant through the window, drumming his fingers on the shop counter.

There's actually a recording that I heard called "Postal Workers Cancelling Stamps at the University of Ghana Post Office" It's very similar to what you are talking about. These guys whistle and cancel the stamps with thuds in an amazing rhythm. It's incredibly musical.

Wow. I'd like to hear that, wan-fu. Where did you find it?
snarfyguy, Mar 18 2003

[snarfyguy]: Sorry for late reply. I haven't been really been checking up on stuff since I'm on break and all. Anyways, I'm not really sure where you can get the recording. I heard it during a seminar class. Maybe you can try to file share it from someone who has it? I don't know about that though because I doubt that it's a very popular piece.
