What Did 8th of 7 Look Like?

An art contest.

I have a very clear image of 8th of 7 in my mind, always have. Based on his discription of himself and put together in my head by god knows what other input, it's very clear and even reasonably detailed.

I stress, I had nothing to do with it. I wasn't even particularly curious, your brain just does these things. "This is how so and so looks most likely."

So the idea is to create a drawing of what you think 8th of 7 looked like. This could be done either by creating a drawing, if one has such talent, hiring a police schetch artist, or most likely using a police schetch artist program.

Another way would be just to look for pictures of somebody who might look like him.

Think I might do the latter. I'm going to cut and paste the exact description from his page and see what comes up. Stand by...

One of the images that came up when I put in his description of himself. https://images.app....l/ZPbPcNU41TcnWmzr8

OK, that absolutely didn't work at all. I searched: "Pallid, tubby, balding, middle aged Trekkie geek" and got a few pictures that were none of those. Here's one that came up: (link)

Hmm, Wally from Dilbert looks dumb. I don't picture 8th looking dumb. Body and hair configuration maybe, but comically stupid looking ..... ehhhh no. Wally looks a little scared and innocent, definately not an 8th trait.

So sorry 8th, you're description of yourself doesn't cut it.

       Unless of course it does.

I feel like this is starting to get a little creepy.

       You may be right.

I once saw a youtube explaining the attempts to sink the Tirpitz, in which an unnamed expert demonstrated precisely scaled-down, chemically correct explosive charges on a precisely scaled-down steel battleship in a water tank. We didn't see his face, but circumstantial evidence suggested to me that this might have been our man.

Could you move this to a different category, please?
I see halfbakery: remembrance: halfbaker as being a special category for dedications to former bakers; one for each. Having /other/ ideas in the same category seems inappropriate - it's why I asked for it to be split out from halfbakery: remembrance.

I know this is /about/ 8th, and I miss him too. But could it go in... say... halfbakery: users: details, or halfbakery: users: individual, or somewhere like that?

I think 8th's cloak of anonymity should be respected. What does it matter what he looked like or didn't look like? That's got nothing to do with anything he posted here. He gave his own description and that's what he "looked like".
xenzag, Mar 24 2021

well I posted a link with a picture of him. You need to sign into Facebook to see it. It’s on the half bakery site on Facebook for those who care what he looked like.I believe it was a picture of himself that he posted here himself many years ago
xandram, Mar 24 2021

Xen, why do you think it wouldn't be respectful? I think it would be a tribute.

Xan, and that's it! I always pictured him as looking like Winston Churchill who is a hero of mine! A little overweight but proud. Great pic! 8th, you were a badass!

And Loris, sure, I'll move it to the category you suggested. This is supposed to make people feel better so that's fine.
doctorremulac3, Mar 24 2021

I didn't say it would be disrespectful. I know you wouldn't be deliberately disrespectful of 8th. I said he kept his image and personal details out of his postings for his own reasons.
xenzag, Mar 24 2021

I forgot that I knew what he looked like until I saw the posted photo. It made no difference. I knew the heart, and that is all I need.

Though it seemed like he had a tight-fitting suit of armor, there existed cracks where the kindness was able to shine through, the kindness that had been, and had been tested, and still remained. Cat torture aside, his heart was apparent. (Just realized how silly that sounded, but then this is the place for silliness if ever there was one.)
blissmiss, Mar 24 2021

       Agreed.

And I'm pretty sure we all know he would never actually hurt a cat, anybody who would wouldn't make jokes about it. Pretty sure it was his way of shunning rules about virtue signaling. The real 8th showed when Max announced his plight. Stunned silence.

Guy had a good heart, I think he just didn't like it when people bragged about how good theirs was so he played the emotionless logic machine.

I just hope he knew how much people liked him.
doctorremulac3, Mar 24 2021

       ^ I really chuckled with/ Winston Churchill/. That’s great.
xandram, Mar 24 2021

I just figured he looked like a chubby, middle-aged, balding guy, slathered in duck fat and wedged in the hatch of a Challenger tank.
UnaBubba, Mar 25 2021

They need to rename the "Challenger" tank. Calling something or somebody a challenger makes no presumption about who'll be victorious, it's just saying here's a contestant. In fact, you could call it the "FV4030/4 Contestant". The Challenger replaced the Chieftain. Hope that's not an ongoing trend.

Like naming a fighter jet "The F57 Not Too Bad, Might Actually Win But If Not That's OK Because We Gave It Our Best Try."
doctorremulac3, Mar 25 2021

//Calling something or somebody a challenger makes no presumption about who'll be victorious,//

Naming tanks isn't easy. There's nothing Cat-like about a Tiger. "Sherman" works OK, but not great. "Churchill" What does that do? Deliver a stirring speech, while doing a damn-fine project management job behind the scenes?

"Challenger" Is OK. Sure, we could be shouty, vulgar, overconfident and call it the "Dominator X5000", but that looks all bark and no bite. "Challenger" It has a whiff of the understated about it. It's a bloody good tank and is a challenger to any other tank in the world and absolutely dominant compared to, all but 3 others? It's a bit like how Rolls Royce used to list the top speed as: "Sufficient".
bs0u0155, Mar 25 2021

Well, I like that, but if a boxer’s nickname was “Mr Sufficient” it might belay a lack of confidence. Hmm... actually that would be kind of intimidating. If he’s sufficient he wins, there’s no other interpretation. It also shows that he’s not full of bluster and braggadocio, because he doesn’t need to be. He’s sufficient and that’s all he’s going to say. You’ll get the details when you face him in the ring. Never mind. Previous statement withdrawn.

He should look like one and one seventh.
neelandan, Apr 29 2021

If he has a gravestone or some similar "marker", some-one needs to engrave "0.875" on it (an eighth of seven, NOT a seventh of eight).
neutrinos_shadow, Apr 29 2021

1.14285714286 might be more in keeping with how he meant the handle to be interpreted I think, the 8th member of a group of 7 .. in the same way 1.25 would be 5 quarters .. but I might be wrong & he's not here to ask, unless there's some prior art on the subject he left lying around here somewhere I've never noticed or forgotten of course?
