...With a Little Drop of Poison...

I like my lamb, with a little drop of poison...

A bit of weird background:

There was once this king (Egyptian, I think), who was afraid of being poisoned. So, as every paranoid man in power does, he took the ultimate safeguard against poison: Poison!
He took the poison in tiny amounts over a long period of time, so that if anyone tried to poison him, he'd be immune to it.
Later, he tried to kill himself (using poison, of all things), it didn't work as he was immune, so he found another way of ending it all.

The whole idea of this restaurant is for members (who have signed a waiver form if one of the doctors administering the tiny drop of poison over drops, and have passed a full medical) to order their food, and, according to how many times they've been there, and how regularly, a specially qualified doctor will administer the according amount.

What poison is for up to the member to decide (not ricin, obviously), but it has to be one you can build up a resistance to. The amount put in is carefully administered, recorded and possibly stored on a membership card, so as there is no confusion.

A wonderful way to spend dinner, I suppose...

Hm, I dunno. I'm just going to keep sipping my gin and tonic...

I know people this would appeal to. They tend to wear a lot of black and listen to the Sisters of Mercy.

No, not the catholics. You know the ones, gloomy music, too much incense and an obsession with death. Oh wait, you were right first time.

How was the fare? Oh. I'd say they missed their fourth star by _that_ much.

I once read about horse-traders feeding small amounts of arsenic to sick horses, increasing the dose gradually. It actually plumps them up and makes them look healthy, which isn't the fashion for people these days, I know. But the process does increase food consumption, so the restaurant would make more money.

Napolean may have been poisoned with low doses of arsenic. He gained a lot of weight before he died.

Not deliberately, I understand - apparently it was in the wallpaper.

They used to hold political prisoners in medieval times and if they really didn't like them, they'd put arsenic on the chicken instead of salt.

       "Oompa, loompa, doopety doo,
We've got a friendly warning for you,
Oompa, loompa, doopety dee,
Chewing on the wallpaper ain't good for thee
What do you get when you munch on arsenic?
Dead or demented; take your pick!
What happens when you're imprisoned for life?
Your mental sanity goes on strike!
So oompa, loompa, doopety doo,
Take our warning from me to you!"

Sorry, that was terrible and completely uncalled for.

Is 'Oompa Loompa' the new 'midget'?
spidermother, Feb 19 2006

No, they've been midgets for years.

Not quite Egyptian but a nice try. See link for a fancy name for the concept as well.
