well it only took about 4 days since i found this place and i'm hooked. this is some powerful stuff. what do you guys and gals do to get off it for a while? is there a drop-in centre somewhere? maybe a twelve-step program? if there isn't, there should be, hence the title of this idea.
as i'm
sitting here typing this i'm supposed to be getting ready for a night out and i'm already a half-hour late.
help me please.

You have it backwards. The 1/2B is actually part of my therapy to overcome...... |
<grin> There is a 12-step program. Take 12 steps away from the computer, and don't come back. |
how about a halfbakery users' group for support? |
we could call it h.u.g.s. i know i could use one right about now... |
Isn't that what the Halfbakery is for? |

hey! there's nothing wrong with a good hug once in a while! |
the world would be a better place if anybody who is involved in some sort of conflict would just lay down his/her arms (the kind that shoot bullets) and wrapped his/herr arms (the kind that are permanently attached to their bodies) around his/her enemy! |
mihali, I'm not going to offer you a hug until you add something of interest to your user profile....come on, you've been here five days now! (Can't be too careful these days....mihali may just be a robot or an alien) |
No way Peter, read mihali's shaving idea again. Of course, maybe women in Toronto need to shave their faces....I don't know. Also, lordhelpus if a woman came up with Running Beer. |
Then my speculation is that mihali is a gay/transvestite, white male, lonely, city dwelling, Canada person, wine drinker, who likes to entertain beer drinking men...... this takes care of the sensitivity issue and explains the waxing, face shaving, and use of a loofah...... yeah....slow afternoon..... (this made more sense before Peter's post that was above it disappeared.....now, how did that happen?)— | Susen,

wow! you guys must really be bored to bother yourselves with guessing about my life. if you want details, i would say check my user profile, but... |
i've been trying to post a profile, and when i hit 'ok' i get an error like this: |
The requested URL "/user/mihali" was not found on this server. |
Apache/1.3.6 Server at www.halfbakery.com Port 80 |
does anybody know how to get around that? |
Send it to jutta by email and ask her nicely? |
A door shuts. The clicking sound of a lock engaging the door jamb is heard. The voice of James Earl Jones is heard off-camera: |
"So...mihali...where did you think you were going?" |
Robots on the the ceiling,
Cold running beer without ice,
and she said..."We are all just prisoners here,
of our own device..."
And in Jutta's chambers,
They gathered for the feast,
They stab it with their real light sabres,
But they just can't kill the PSbeast. |
Last thing mihali remembers, he/she was
backspacing for the door,
He/She had to find the link back,
to the place he/she was before,
"Relax" said the bakers,
"We are programmed to receive.
You can check out any time you like,
But you can never leave!" |
hey susen, how about that hug now? i promise i won't bite ;) |
mihali, <grin> I knew you were a guy. (Peter, I told you so :-P ) Glad that you're not gay, but, damn, shame about the engaged to be married thing..... {sigh}.

There is no cure. The only refuge is a retreat from reality. I believe that you've been introduced to some of the other inmates. Welcome to the asylum. |
susen & peter: hey don't worry about it. i know it's all in jest. besides, i've been called a lot worse in my life! |
you know this thread gives me an idea. i wonder if we should have a category that isn't about anything, just more of a chat room or bbs where we can, you know, chat. or is that kind of redundant considering what we're doing now? |
mihali: In the past, jutta seems to have been against that sort of thing. Halfbakery has a specific purpose, and there are already other general purpose chat rooms and message boards out there. |
iuvare: interesting ventriloquism act you have there. Isn't that sort of like impersonating an officer or something? |
I think the chat room idea was tried briefly at one point...but it seems nobody was comfortable talking in "real time". A bulletin board.....I think that's covered in the annotations in a way. centauri will tell you that I talk too much about myself as it is... :-( I think most people prefer that others don't know that much about them....adds to the "air of mystery" and allows them to post things and annotate things that they maybe wouldn't say otherwise. I can understand that, in a way. Since I use my real name...I haven't "flamed" several times that I wanted too.... I've kept my fingers still several times when I just wanted to "yell" at someone for being stupid. But, in retrospect, I usually only feel that way when I am stressed that has nothing to do with the 1/2 B. For other people though, this is more of an escape and stress reliever....as well as creative outlet. |
Susen: I don't think it was so much uwillingness to talk in realtime...more that being all over the world, we couldn't get together all at once... |
ouch. Stop it, Rod; that hurt. I am clearly a halfbakery abuser of the exact sort you mention, Rod. I think I really am becoming addicted (but it's still funny, so don't worry). It used to be just the occasional off day at the office. Then more frequently. Then at home. Then I would laugh about it to my friends, who didn't get it. Now it's about 6 hours a day here, while I'm at the office, and the only reason it's not more is because I'm trapped in my car nights, without any connectivity whatsoever. At one point, I was considering buying a PDA (more likely a laptop) just to do telnet and HB. |
I'd like to think that if I actually *had* anything to do, that I would be able to give it up, but I'm starting to question that. I suppose we'll find out when I'm faced with the decision; do your job vs. halfbake. |
RodsTiger thinks they have escaped....like the book is even going to get done on deadline. Tell your editor now that you have an addiction problem so they will work with you and understand those times the work just isn't ready when it was supposed to be...... |
Yeah! What he said! Uh... nevermind... |
I have to admit that this kind of thing does worry me. It has taken me all the will-power I had to extricate myself from discussions of the 2001 UK general election and to cut down on such whimsical and creative activity as the HalfBakery is even tougher. |
So, we would all be almost 120 days clean and sober from the 1/2B by now if we had actually implemented this idea..... |
Halfbakery, 1/2 the Tar, twice the addiction |
Twice, nuthin' - I can be looking at the most beautiful (read: expensive) cars in the world (as I just was) (again) or writing off-line, and I'll get 'bakery pangs. |

I was in a very large, boring, admin. meeting today. one of the items on the agenda was the fact that the internal severely cut-back courier service was just not working, I had to restrain myelf from standing and pronouncing that a better use of the albatross was required. |
