The Boston Dynamics crew have widened their product range, mostly for repetitive inspection work in industrial complexes. The promo video shows spot walking gantries and stairs. the thing is, most large chemical or industrial complexes have vertical fixed access ladders for humans to use.

My idea is to equip Spot with hooks on each leg, at the ankle somewhere so now it can do a more complex kinematic motion to climb fixed access ladders. Spot will have the ability to stand vertically on the hooks while changing the position of free limbs. This gives spot access to more dangerous areas.

Of course it would be wise for the robot to have the arm function as this can secure the robot for quicker limb-ladder motions and actual robot body pull ups.

Just call it cocky because of the heights Spot will traverse.

This isn't the solution Boston Dynamics will go for, instead, the robo-terror dog will squat, pause for a short, but ominous period of time, then leap 16m vertically upward to continue it's Relentless Pursuit / vital inspection work.

Probably right. Batteries have to be up for it.

Having a wide array of options is where humans excel. A neighbour had an intelligent building site dog that used to climb ladders. Admittedly ladders with wide treads.

[kdf] In that case, Spot just needs to act subserviant and get plugged for a quick data transfer.
