Breed a algae or slime that makes concrete last longer, apply to waterways
  [vote for,

I think it is possible to breed an algae or slime community that has basic pH (or just buffers pH) at its contact surface. It could even calcify.

This would reduce cracking and microcracks at water projects causing them to last longer and retain water better.

Often there are schemes to address water needs. What if this reduced TCO1-3% or increased water transported 1-5%?

I think it is possible to breed .... oh, never mind. At least it's not in other:general.

This is not your worst idea, [beany].

You are, though, going to have to think of lots of things. For instance, it's very difficult to maintain a designed biofilm (which is basically what this is) - there will be many other microbes wanting to get in there, and you need to find a way to make your beneficial biofilm dominant.

Splice in some Velociraptor genes ?

Yes, because they've survived so well.

       Horseshoe crab genes, then ?

       That's more like it.

OK ... so, engineer a single celled photosynthesizing organism, based on a mix of Horseshoe crab, Crocodile and Velociraptor DNA, with frog genes to fill in any gaps ?

Ethyl Methane Sulphonate as an alkylating agent, presumably ... ?
