Add a cool visual to a boxing match. The harder the punch, the bigger the shower of sparks.
I could totally see the audience doing the "OOHHHH!!!!" thing from a particularly devastating punch and spark explosion.
As pert pointed out, glancing blows would make more sparks than solid blows so you're
judged by sparks emited, not the damage of the blows.
Kinder gentler boxing that's more spectacular. You'd still get knocked out but computers would read the spark amount and score in real time accordingly

Hmm ... I'm seeing glancing blows make more sparks than solid blows, which is not really what you want, is it? |

But good point, okay, idea updated: You're judged by sparks emited, not the damage of the blows. |

Eye protection would be tough to make work. You don't want blind combatants. |

The helmets need different colors of sparks to judge. |

That's the problem with sharing ideas on line, somebody takes the ball and runs it across the finish line. |

Ugh! Different colored sparks for each boxer! How could I have missed that?!?!?! |
