A smart piece of software for your browser which pops up a warning "You do know that you are purchasing this from China, don't you??"

       [+] But what to do about the itty-bitty Chinesium parts buried in everything?

       These days I think you don’t even need software, you could just put a sticker on your screen. [+]

       It's nothing idealistic, it's just that you sometimes wonder why things haven't come. Plus yes there's the quality point.

       Instead of a boolean flag, isChinese, you need more of a vector of chinoiserie, with at least three different percentages, indicating Chinese raw materials, Chinese labour and Chinese ownership.

       If there were just these three, they could be mapped to a colour.

       What's not made in China? What's the nature of the "misery"?

       I'm typing this on a Macbook pro which is 100% manufactured in China, with the parts bolted together in Cork so that Apple only has to pay 0.005% tax into the Irish Republic..... so where is it made?

       "Apple has faced controversy regarding its tax arrangements in Ireland, where it had a significant presence, including operations under the "Double Irish" structure. This structure allowed Apple to shift a large portion of its profits outside the EU, effectively reducing its tax liability to very low levels, even as low as 0.005% in 2014"

       A breakdown of the components in manufactured items, how much tax was paid on them and to whom, would make really interesting reading.

       So, side note, of course;

       Every packaged item in North America, according to work standards, can not exceed 50 pounds, (I don't know how many kilos that is), except products from China.

       As a tile setter with about a quarter century or more under my belt I can tell you with certainty that China doesn't give a shit about the weight of their exports.
