"What're these, then?"

"Oh, those are new - car christmas lights. Want some? You've got a roadster; they'd look nice on your front quarterpanels."

"What? How do they get power? Are they battery-operated?"

"No, they're wired in parallel with your headlights. Well, I say wired, really you just have to unplug the headlamp bulb and plug this connector in - five minute's work. Then the connector comes out from beneath the hood, see, and you plug the lights in and put them wherever you want."

"And get sticky tape all over my nice new paint job. No, thnak you."

"No, see, they have these little magnets every few lights. It's a rope style, not individual bulbs like you get on house lights. That's for aerodynamics. Feel that? That little lump is actually a supremely powerful magnet."

"Hmmph"

"They're LED-based! You'll never have to worry about a bulb burning out!"

"So are these legal?"

"Er, we're almost certain."

"I see."

" ... But ... Sir! Really! Wouldn't it be WORTH a ticket to have something this cool? You can get the white ones and leave them on all year! It's like a flame paint job only better!"

"Sorry, I don't do art."

"I ca - Our team of artists can put them on for you!"

" ... "

"Please? I need the commision to buy a new Magical Talking Ba - uh, a new sweater for my dear old grandma."

" ... I'll have to ask my wife."

Christmas decorations are in far too many places as it is.

       Sez you.

Good idea - I've seen this done. In India, for example, cars and buses are sometimes decorated this way for weddings (the other chief decoration being a net of flowers, equally pretty by day).

Like 8 million (exaggerated number) long haul truckers in America line their trailers and cabs with lights and put wreaths on the front grill. I can't find a link, but I have seen it. With my own eyes.

+ These guys have gotcha covered. [link]

Thanks for the link, [2 fries] - that's just about what I was imaginging in terms of visual effect (except maybe with abstract designs on the panels, not just along the edges).

So - if I understand you correctly: you switch your headlight bulb for a connector, so no headlight - just decorations moving fast. Kinda cool and spooky.
spekkie, Dec 14 2005

[spekkie], no, you don't REMOVE your headlight bulb. The connector plugs in behind it, sort of like those "pass-through outlets" that you sometimes see on christmas light strings.
