Cruise Trucks

Why waste missiles when a truck will do nicely?

When delivering high explosives to the enemy without endangering one's own military personell, the current transportation technology of choice is the cruise missile, the most expensive and complex available. What a waste considering that the vehicle is going to be destroyed in a fireball anyway. I propose developing a fleet of automatically piloted cruise trucks. They could be lined up and driven across the enemy's border at the onset of war. Then they would cruise down the most convienient highway, park next to the target and explode. Sure they would be easy to stop on an individual basis, but for the cost of 10 Cruise Missiles you could launch 10,000 Cruise Trucks, only 1/1000th of which would need to get through. As an added bonus, they could be programmed to explode as soon as they were stopped or knocked off course causing the enemy soldiers to flee at the mere sight of one coming down the road.

You can't launch trucks from an aircraft carrier that's miles from the coast. Unless you have a really big catapult.

I thought this would be a cruise ship alternative for the aquaphobic.

Okay, but only if you happen to be invading a neighboring country.

Cruise trucks would need to follow legal drving proceedures and if they blow up when stoped they would damage the road. If the trucks were all terrain vehicles and they could navigate a free way it might be possible. You could put a dummy in the seat and another dummy in the passenger seat, that way they could use the "diamond lane "and have a much better chance of the reaching the objective or at least getting somewhere a little faster. With two dummy's it would look like normal drivers who cause much more damage every day than all the explosives in all the wars. Then you could have Cruise Trucks delivering fresh donuts during the occupation to keep the cops happy, and not endanger personelle...Are you sure Gallager did anything funny. He made that ballon he floated over people to listen to conversations "stealth ballon". Maybe the Pentagon should use him, he actually makes things happen too, except being funny..Could you say Gallager usually bombs.

wouldn't the enemy quickly learn about said trucks and destroy?

the nice thing about missles is quick response times, accuracy and basically undectectable (to some extent).

the trucks would never reach their destination.
