Diving Mask HUD

A Heads Up Display in your diving mask

Since your number one concern while diving is ou air supply and bottom time, you are constantly reaching for your console to check your computer or gauges.I know I would enjoy a dive much more if I could see my stats in the corner of my mask. I would also like to have one less hose hanging around me while underwater. Currently there are many models of dive computer the transmit the data to a wrist unit. It seems like it would be easy to transmit this data to an LCD display inside my mask. It would have to be a waterproof display as there is often a lot of water in a mask, and you wash it between dives. Currently "transmitting" units are only broadcasting air supply data, and the wrist unit is calculating depth and available bottom time. The "sending" unit would have to do all of these calculations, because you dont want a large computer unit attached to you mask. Only an Idea!

Only a *good* idea! [+}
Perhaps add a button (or bulb) that allows the diver to cycle thru various displays.
I'm not a diver, but wouldn't there be some lighting difficulties underwater?

       I don't know if I'd want to obscure vision in anyway, though -- been dying to try a full face mask like the one in the link -- maybe on that one

       Fully Baked: http://www.oceanicworldwide.com/2004/p_computers_iddm.html Great idea, but the pros are on it. Sorry.

       As a lapsed diver, I wouldn't trust anything that was relying on my mask being in place and waterproof. Nice idea, but you would still want all the associated gauges straight of the tank, and also the good watch. Planning is everything after all.

       El_Zaque -- cool, but please use the "link" thingy to post links.

       gnomethang -- I think you're on to something in that I would only use a mask like this in addition to regular sensors.

       At least for a while
