Drink Your Breakfast

For those on the go ...

Every day I follow the same steps--

1: Measure out instant oatmeal in a bowl. 2: Add a measured amount of walnuts. 3: Add banana slices. 4: Add a measured amount of fat free milk. 5: Microwave for 2 minutes. 6: Let it cool down. 7: Eat.

Note: I wasn't always this healthy. In fact, I only changed breakfast habits to lower my cholesterol. And now that it's lowered I continue with the regimen.

But I need to eat my breakfast in a bowl with a spoon and I tend to get late for work (please don't ask me to wake 10 minutes earlier, it's humanly impossible.) I have often thought about blending the whole concoction in a blender and making a nutritious breakfast drink

Campbell's Soup has a product called "Soup at Hand" [see link]. I would like to create a similar delivery mechanism for my morning breakfast (the ingredients will be blended into a drinkable form). At the store it will be available in a variety of formats for a variety of tastes. One variety would be the ingredients I've described above. But for other palettes we might replace walnuts with blueberries or add bacon for those who prefer a little sweet and salty affair.

Nasty-pops [spidermother, Jan 21 2012]

Give it a whirl, so to speak. The night before, follow steps as you describe, place mix in blender, blend to desire consistency, place in thermos. On the morning of your breakfast, drink from thermos. Should you be enamored of the little "soup at hand" cans, save one, rinse it out, place above described mixture in can, drink.

Personally, I just dump the oatmeal into a big tumbler, nuke it with some milk or muscle milk, and drink it. Kindof gloppy, but edible for on-the-go.

Othertimes I throw an egg into a tupperware soup bowl, the kind with the vented lid, throw some dry oatmeal on top of that, add some water and milk or muscle milk, nuke it, and eat the whole mess in the car out of the soup bowl container.
RayfordSteele, Jan 17 2012

I'll take one egg, sausage, bacon and fried bread smoothie, please.
MaxwellBuchanan, Jan 17 2012

Would Sir like a specific against projectile vomiting with that ?

[bungston] I don't want to do step 1 though 6, thus the idea.
nomadic_wonderer, Jan 17 2012

Many former years of bachelorhood have made me rather flexible when it comes to the taste vs. practicality balance.
RayfordSteele, Jan 17 2012

Shirley the solution is to have Campbell’s Soup for breakfast?
pocmloc, Jan 17 2012

Hi nomadic. Long time no see. Idea...well the idea is a little baked, I think too. But it's still good to see you.
blissmiss, Jan 17 2012

       Hello Blissmiss.
nomadic_wonderer, Jan 17 2012

// Many former years of bachelorhood have made me rather flexible when it comes to the taste vs. practicality balance. //

Yeah, my wife still keeps asking me what I want to eat. She doesn't understand when I say "whatever is there, fastest and easiest". Flavor isn't even on my list ... usually.

So on work days I make my own breakfast, of a little meat in wholegrain bread, with maybe some mustard if I am feeling fancy. And hot sauce.

That gives me protein and complex carbs, is easy to eat and doesn't require leaving a bowl, spoon or cup rolling around the car all day.

Otherwise, there are some of our daughter's breakfast "shakes" in cans in the fridge, but I haven't been that desperate yet.
baconbrain, Jan 17 2012

In the words of Emile the rat:
"Once you can muscle your way past the gag reflex all kinds of food possibilities open up."

I like to cook but don't usually eat breakfast except on weekends.

(vanilla yogurt + fruit) / blender = smoothie > travel mug

Liquid breakfast, baked and ready to drink. Want something more substantial? Stuff your oatmeal into a toothpaste tube and squeeze it into your mouth while you drive. Portable/drinkable meals are nothing new.
Alterother, Jan 19 2012

Hmm... oatmeal in a toothpaste tube... we could call it GOatmeal. Or, perhaps not.
RayfordSteele, Jan 19 2012

Unpleasantly reminiscent of hippo's 'lunch slurry'. <link>
DrBob, Jan 19 2012

// we could call it GOatmeal. //

Sounds like the stuff the Nanny State tries to get you to eat.

       // Or, perhaps not //

       No perhaps about it.

       Is this not a flavour?
xenzag, Jan 19 2012

       It's a texture.
baconbrain, Jan 19 2012

Flavor would not be how I'd choose to describe it.
RayfordSteele, Jan 20 2012

Alright, I get it. What is the etiquette around here? Should I delete the idea (since the suggestion is it's baked) or leave it online? It's been so long I can't remember community rules any more.
nomadic_wonderer, Jan 20 2012

The real question though is; will it blend?

       // Should I delete the idea ///

I don't know what the community rules are anymore. If someone else wants to make a case for deletion, they can try. Myself, I tend to leave my bad ideas up as examples of what not to do.

If there's interesting commenting, I definitely leave it up.
baconbrain, Jan 20 2012

// Myself, I tend to leave my bad ideas up as examples of what not to do. //

Tautology; when did you last have a good idea ?
8th of 7, Jan 20 2012

Well, my posting that comment evidently wasn't a good idea.
baconbrain, Jan 21 2012

I say leave it. Good or bad is subjective, and all ideas (as well as the discussions they generate) have merit.
Alterother, Jan 21 2012

//Is this not a flavour?// Is beige not a colour?
mouseposture, Jan 21 2012

       Is that not rhetoric ?

mouseposture, Jan 21 2012

[Jutta] explained why "Nasty-pops" (linked) is not a flavour in the help file sense, even though that idea is flavour-centric (in fact, flavour-concentric). I think the same applies here. It's a bit low in originality ("Like Soup at Hand, only breakfast"), but that's another matter.
