Frontview Mirror

Seeing ahead while looking back

This indispensable automotive article looks just like rearview mirror, but it isn't. It fastens securely on the top inside of the rear window. For those who turn around and look through the rear window when backing, this product affords the reverse driver a panoramic view of what was in front. This would come in handy when backing out on the driveway and the mother-in-law's only child comes running out of the house with another shopping list or forgotten kid. The mirror also offers unequalled opportunities to examine one's ponytail or bald spot or both. And don't forget, when driving and taking cursory glances at the traffic behind, the traffic ahead won't be missed.

It could also be positioned to see the baby in the rear-facing car seat in the back seat. But then, there are already mirrors you can buy that are made specifically for seeing a baby in a car seat, and I suppose they could be positioned to give you a view out the front windshield. So your idea is close to being baked, but not exactly.

Come to think of it, if the frontview mirror were quite large, you could face forward, look into the rearview mirror, and see reflected there a view that would allow you to drive by looking only in the rearview mirror, though the with the view of someone in the back seat.

So you could be your own backseat driver.

This is starting to sound a bit dangerous to me. How confident are you that you would never get mixed up between the ends of the car and what direction you were travelling in?

You're still always travelling in the direction your nose is pointing. Seeing scenery receding in the rearview mirror doesn't confuse the driver so seeing it recede in a frontview mirror when in reverse should be no different. Otherwise when driving forward, seeing some scenery approaching in a small part of the rearview mirror should have only a minimal effect. On the other hand, when looking at the reflection of a car, you may have to think twice if it is the front of a car about to pass you or the back of a car that is braking in front of you.

I was behind a car with a mommy driving her kids around yesterday - she could have used this device. I had to keep honking at her to go when traffic started moving again, because every time she stopped, she turned completely around and fussed over the backseat kids.
