Cars are getting bigger and bigger (in inverse proportion to the brain sizes of those driving them as far as I'm concerned) but anyway, the bigger roofs do provide two advantages: more space and the brute strength to accommodate a Car Roof Garden.

Just as there are a bigly number of different types of cars, so it is with their new roof gardens, which equally come in every shape, size and variety of plantings.

Their one common feature is that they all inhabit some or even all of the available space on a car roof. For some cars this will consist of just a fringe of greenery occupying a narrow border running around the perimeter of the roof. For others there will be a virtual plantation of exotic shrubbery on the roof, protected from the elements by a type of contoured botanic gardens dome. In all cases, a simple supporting platform is fitted to the car roof to securely facilitate the garden modules. with transparent wind deflectors in place as shields for when the car is in motion.

The more adventurous will sculp their Car Roof Garden into a “go faster” streamlined profile. For some, the garden may be like rastafarian hair, featuring wild trailings that blow around in the vortex generated when the car is moving at a higher speed.

Naturally your Car Roof Garden will require frequent maintenance and attention, but no more so than that of any small domestic garden - ie watering, weeding, feeding, trimming, harvesting. As an added incentive to encourage car owners to adopt the idea of growing a garden on the roof of their car, special free car parking places will be provided on certain city streets and an annual Car Roof Garden of the year competition held.

Dashboard_20Grass_20(retractable) companion idea [xenzag, Sep 26 2025]

This idea combines well with my idea of bypassing the need to build solar panels by harvesting power directly from photosynthesis. Combined with regenerative braking, this car could be a hybrid UV/EV. [+]

Perhaps with a greenhouse roof that closes to shield the plants from high winds...

It will have to have some kind of windshield or those flowers and their dirt won't be long for the world at 75 mph.

I followed somebody the other day on the highway towing a trailer camper with a luggage rack.
All of the luggage rack was covered in pots growing various herbs and vegetables, totally protected from the wind by their placement behind the trailer.

"Sir, are you aware that your topiary was making obscene gestures at highway speeds?"
"I had no idea, officer. I could have sworn I installed the regular bonsai yew tree, and not the novelty 'fuck yew' variety, that I'd definitely never heard of. It's the springiness that does it. They used to make bows out of it, you know."
