Stink producing product would be placed in junction boxes, on switch connections, wire nuts etc.. The product would emit an easily noticeable odor when target temperature was reached. This would serve as a first warning to prevent a fire. The stink chemical could be encapsulated in something that would degrade or melt or sublimate due to abnormal heat thus releasing the bad smell. The product could be blended into antioxidation pastes used for wire hookups. Such a product would be especially beneficial for houses, trailers etc. with aluminum wiring.

Very nice, chad. Encorporate this into power strips and commonly overloaded outlet-type connections as well. [+]
