Hunker in the Bunker

A gaggle of wealthy men and women from around the world lay down Big Bucks to reserve luxury spaces in a state-of-the-art apocalyptic shelter. But when things start to get hairy and they lock themselves in, they're surprised to find that, contrary to expectations, they're on their own - no assistants, no lackeys, no minions, no servants. Not even a plumber. It's Donald Trump meets Bear Grylls, Gilligan's Island with no one but Howells... Hilarity ensues.

This could actually work as a movie.
MaxwellBuchanan, Sep 28 2015

Not even remotely realistic. Every good billion-dollar bunker denizen worth saving knows to bring along the staff. Even Hitler's bunker had staff...

Some of those billionaires are going to be tech-startup übergeeks who will have no problem unholstering the 'ol Leatherman and fixing stuff ...bad news for the stock traders and celebs, tho.

In a plot twist, maybe a poor person gets shut in as well by mistake, but then saves the situation.

Or maybe something along the lines of Masque of the Red Death meets 2001 meets Alien ...

Bill Gates: Okay everybody, I've installed Windows 10 to run life-support.

Tim Cook: and we're running it all from this one iPad.

       It'd be a short movie.

I'm getting a rather vague memory of probably an Heinlein story.

Were you a character in it?
RayfordSteele, Sep 29 2015

One could do this up as a Survivor type deal but with the wealthy gaggle. Incompetence is fun to watch. Surprising super-competence even more fun.
bungston, Sep 29 2015

I can't think of a Heinlein that matches this. If nothing else, he didn't write incompetent, or even just competent, protagonists.
MechE, Sep 29 2015

Well, I did say it was a vague recollection... my brain might have been riffing off of "Tunnel in the Sky" or that Spider Robinson zombie write.

I hope they stock the shelves with Monopoly Games and they could use their real money to pass the time before they all realize that no one remembered to pack clean underwear.
xandram, Sep 30 2015

In the sequel, they finally realize they have to come out - whereupon they are summarily devoured by the bestialized humans who have been waiting for them.
smendler, Nov 28 2015

Oh, so it's set in Norfolk, then ?
