Inflatable Hoodie

blow your top

When I go on holiday, I always wear a very light-weight hoodie top. It's perfect if there is a short rain shower; warm enough for air conditioned buses; has zip up pockets for storage etc

All it lacks is a double layer in the hoodie part, so that when you pull it over your head, you can inflate it either partially or totally, using a small rechargable auto pump.

Now cocooned inside its protecting air-padded interior, you may sleep in total comfort provided by the comparative darkness, neck support and resulting noise level reduction.

This is brilliant! Would be ideal for snoozing on planes, too. [+]

       That's its main purpose.
xenzag, Sep 18 2010

MB dropped this (+). Let me just pop it up there where it belongs.

       Woops.

//you can inflate it either partially or totally, using a small rechargable auto pump.//

For simplicity sake, how about just a mouth-valve? Great idea, btw [+]
Boomershine, Sep 18 2010

... that's for topping it up.

       Baked [link].
Boomershine, Sep 20 2010

       This needs the following improvements:
Make it capable of inflating to three times the normal size when so actuated.

Install CO2 cartridges for very rapid inflation.

Install shock and motion sensors here and there.

...And I give you... the body airbag! Keeps you much safer in most kinds of accidents including auto accidents, (in or out of the car) falls, (from heights too) certain earthquake and weather related dangers, (many cases of)drowning, and the like.
Voice, Sep 20 2010

Baked or not, I really like the Inflatable Hoodie idea. So much, I went looking for one...Not sure about the body airbag. Besides saving you from those accidents, it pretty much saves you from living a normal live. Like a bubble boy suit?
Boomershine, Sep 20 2010

Every time I see your moniker [Boomershine] it makes me think of this game. [link]

[2 fries] Oh, crap...does this mean I'm Baked?

(Boomershine, btw, is a name I picked out of a phonebook...really: Skippy W. Boomershine.)

Every time I see your moniker, I want to send you a couple of fries.
Boomershine, Sep 20 2010

I imagined this would be to prevent head injuries, during scuffles in queues outside nightclubs.
infidel, Sep 20 2010

...or when falling down the stairs drunk.
xenzag, Sep 20 2010

I just looked up that Burton Hoodie link and it only features a removable inflatable neck pillow. In other words a poor imitation!
xenzag, Sep 20 2010

Is it OK to inflate it before exiting the aircraft ? The instructions on every single lifejacket we have abstracted from your aviation vehicles* always say "Do Not Inflate".

*Do not be afraid. We always leave a precise, if non-functioning, replica in its place. (We are not savages. We only wanted 263,485,355,812,641 of them as a souvenir).

//I just looked up that Burton Hoodie link and it only features a removable inflatable neck pillow. In other words a poor imitation!//

Well, good. I couldn't find a good description of that model (although, that's the part I like the best).

Anyway, bun from me, Baked or not. [+]

Excuse me, 8th of 7, are you under some delusion that you are an alien or aliens? I'm not trying to offend, rather to comprehend.
infidel, Sep 20 2010

//are you under some delusion// Let's think this through, shall we? Under what possible circumstances would they answer "yes?"
mouseposture, Sep 21 2010

Maybe if they were really *_delusional_ aliens*?
Boomershine, Sep 21 2010

You may very well be baked [Boomershine].
'preciate the sentiment on the fries. Not sure I'd know what to do with'm if I had'm.

You mean it *wouldn't* make you happy? WTF?
Boomershine, Sep 21 2010

       //_delusional_ alien//
Whose delusion was that it was a delusional Earthling whose delusion was that it was an alien.
Dammit [Boomershine] you are giving me a headache!
mouseposture, Sep 21 2010

It's an alien deluding itself into thinking it's an earthling deluding itself that it's an alien, clearly.
daseva, Sep 21 2010

       Yep, clearly.
Boomershine, Sep 21 2010

Would this squash your cheeks together so your mouth squishes out? Just a question, not a criticism.

If so, it would probably ensure that you got a seat to yourself as well, 'cos a) you'd look pretty insane and b) once you fell asleep you'd be 90% sure to dribble.

I suppose it could feature fold away insect mouth parts, that were normally stuck down with velcro. Include two compound eyes that also inflate to provide extra padding, and you'd probably get most of the cabin to yourself on any flight.

// delusion that you are an alien or aliens? //

       1. We are not delusional.

       2. We are not an aggressive hegemonising swarm of a collective cybernetic life form.

Only one of the above statements is true ... <snigger>

       I expected something like:

We are not a middle-aged(ish) Trekkie with a fascination for things designed for killing people.

Just from a quick assessment of your list of ideas and the tenet of many of your comments, you understand. That and the fact you can actually spell.

       //I expected something...//

       [infidel] There's your problem.
Boomershine, Sep 21 2010

It *might* not make me happy, but my meal would be. See?

       I do. Thanks.
Boomershine, Sep 23 2010

How can a patent be granted to an idea that I created at a prior date?
xenzag, Feb 29 2016

What about inflatable shorts? If you see something crawl up your pant leg you would have an additional line of defense.
bungston, Feb 29 2016

This is close enough to an idea we considered posting to be practically a duplicate, but the title we had considered was "Human stampede airbag" ... a garment which protects the head down to the pelvis in a rapidly-inflating cylinder which leaves space in the interior for the wearer to breathe.
