Little House On The Gumline

semi detached implant molar

I have to get an implant - tooth that is. My dentist already thinks I’m on some kind of neurodiversity spectrum and I just added to his assessment by making the request that I generate and supply my own replacement dental crown instead of the usual matching tooth shape one they supply.

My idea is to 3D print or CNC mill a tooth sized house to fit unto the implant's protruding abutment. I’m certain this is also achievable using the “lost wax” jewellery making process, so I’ll also look into that as a method.

I’m sure the resulting tooth will be hard to keep clean, but that’s a small price to pay for something that’s in reality a tiny unique wearable art work. I’d also like it to have a type of anodised metallic red finish but will settle for tooth colour if that proves too problematic to achieve.

I’ve posted other customised teeth ideas here (link), but this is a chance for me to actually put my money where my molar is.

3D-printed dental implants are already a Thing, so there's no reason this can't work.
You could do it with a clear outer "tooth shaped" layer over the opaque inner "art piece", to keep it more functional & (in particular) cleanable.

You do have the timeworn options of having it hold poison, poisonous gas, or microfilm.

CNC? You just need an Indian bone carver or a Chinese jade artist. An Eskimo could do a great job.

You could dye the dental composite epoxy-like material any color you want. Or multi-color. Tiny diamond windows and a gold door knocker.

I hope it’s a molar. A house up front in your grill is a bit much.

I had thought of the Norman Bates house from Psycho.
