Olympic slowest weight lift

The participants must lift a weight through a controlled vertical distance. Points are given for time and weight. A stop or holding is a disqualification of attempt. The position of the weight would have to be electronically monitored.

This would also work for rocketry. The emphasis on burn would change from momentum gain to the interaction of rocket burn to the surrounding space. Don't jump, rocket. Float, rocket, float.

       //A stop or holding is a disqualification// That's harsh. With poor measurement, apparent stops would be frequent. With good measurement, tremors would occasionally cancel the net movement and cause apparent stops.

       I'd like to see a competition for the long jump. At present, the jumps seem to last only about 0.3-0.6 seconds.

       ^ yes... though given g as a constant one could simply measure the area underneath the jump from the contestants highest or lowest point or cg.

       Hmm. Clearance height or jump length aren't necessarily direct measures of airborne time (as you allude to), so perhaps there's a sport to be had here.   

       I seem to recall that Greek long-jumpers would hold weights which they swung to extend their jumps. Perhaps a similar technique could be used to increase time in the air, by swinging oneself around the weights during the jump.

       Technically, the length of one's jump is directly related to the height from which one chooses to jump. The highest prizes are therefore awarded posthumously.

       I would like to think the accuracy in measurement would easily discern a human athletes ability of slow motor control under strain. Tremor variation would be a tiny scale. Anyway, more weight can be always be used to balance time points.   

       Maybe, only all forward motion time is valid. The other time components are subtracted from the total. Although I can see this becoming a weight marathon   

       Another way to go is a static hold for as long possible for your chosen weight. The outstretch arms kind of deal.   

       Aside: So an Albatross has the longest jump.

       I really like the rocketry idea. A rocket that rises a meter a minute would be fun to gradually watch. Nowadays they might be able to 3d print the hobby rocket engines that could do this.

       You'd need sintered ceramic nozzles - beyond the capability of current technology.   

       The ToF would be very short, only a few seconds, and liquid fuel.
