Squid and octopi have the advantage of being able to produce both visual and tactile displays.

This appears to be a suitable medium fit a programmable display with a wide range of outputs

       Get kraken.

// a wide range of outputs

And very few inputs. Were you thinking bluetooth?

I have to say that the quality of [2fries]' puns has been improving of late.

As to the idea, Alastair Reynolds uses squid chromatophores as display devices in several of his SF works.

Presumably this will be based round an ARM processor ?

I am tickled by this idea and on a scale of one to twelve... I would even have to say that I am ten tickled by it.

Cephalopods generally are recognised as being fairly intelligent, to the extent that they enjoy many of the same protections as vertebrates. For instance, you can use invertebrates in experiments easily, apart from cephalods for which the regulations are similar to those for mice and other vertebrates.

This is all well and good, but nobody is looking after the interests of vanillapods.
