The Progressive Cottage is a system where you start out equipped with a basic cabin module to stake a claim in a particular area. It provides you a very basic shelter to live in. Over time, you can progressively upgrade it into a better and better equipped living quarters, eventually progressing to become a full-fledged cottage dwelling.

       Alright fine! If nobody else is going to say it. Is it a cabin for your dogs stuffy?

       If not then you need a category change.

       I think this is considerably baked. I remember back in the 'seventies, people used to pitch caravans, build shelters for them, then the caravan would become secondary for the shelter and eventually they'd have a house and get rid of the caravan. There were complaints that this could be done without planning permission. I just thought it was cool.

       //stake a claim in a particular area//

       Genuine question, are there any inhabitable parts of the world that are not already inhabited, owned, or economically exploited by someone? Is "staking a claim" therefore simply theft? in which case [-]

       Or is this more to do with evading planning restrictions as [19thly] suggests, as a way to build on land you legally own but don't have permission to develop? In which case, [-] widely known to exist.

       It's not much of an idea re being halfbaked. Could it not start off looking like (for example) a giant hollowed out tooth, then gradually get modifications like cavities, braces, receeding gums etc?

       Well, this is supposed to be a pre-planned system, rather than just expanding on the fly, by the seat of your pants.

       That way you're not building everything all up front, having to pay for it all up front, and being on the hook for a large mortgage.

       You can "time the market" perhaps - like expanding when it's cheaper to do so, or when you're more financially capable of doing so.

       Think of it like swing-trading. Buy low, sell high.
