Bring your own hammer or rent the tagged one from the nearby secure enclosure. (note* you must register first and have it linked to your phone and credit card)
You can now pound away whatever you want on the Public Anvil.
Also note* Public Anvil is under video surveilance and has its own youtube
channel.
I believe there is an as yet unmet demand for this idea.

Are we allowed to drop it? |
That would entail being able to pick it up. Can you pick up an anvil? I'd like to see that. This one is also bolted to a reinforced concrete base, so you'll have to pick that up too. Best just to bash some coins flat on it. (or unwanted cuff links) |
I have never seen an anvil placed in a public place for people to hit things on, so [+] |
However I am suspicious of the claim that //there is an as yet unmet demand for this idea.// However I note that this is presented as a personal belief, not as a factual statement, so there's not much I can do about it except wander off muttering. |

Can the anvil be launched? (using a small charge of powder to blast it into the air) |
For what purpose? Also, to launch it into the air would require a considerable amount of explosive power inserted under its base, and that's never going to happen. For asking a stupid question you must lick the anvil on a boiling hot day as a penance. |
What I'm hearing is that you're allowed to eat the anvil. |
If it weighs 120-150 lbs or so then no sweat. Well, maybe a little sweat. But it's no heavier than my son. |
Alex's Anvil Chicken never really could compete with Steve. |
Some heavier anvils can reach 500 lbs or more..... |
One - misread as pubic anvil |
Two - reminds me of my never published "Rent a Kettle Drum" idea |
I considered that, but thought it was too many ideas rolled into one. A series of tuned metal blocks positioned in a public place would be worth developing as a separate idea - there I've done it! ha |
Is it wrong that I read it as Pubic Anvil and was interested? |
Yes. But don't let that stop you. |
+ I would suggest a ticket dispenser machine with numbers so you dont have to wait in queue.(Id rather do this than stand in the line for the delicatessen at the grocery store.) |
Good idea... along with your ticket (for a small donation) you could obtain a gaudy unwanted metal trinket to pound flat with your lump hammer, |
I think sninctown might have been thinking of the Annual Anvil Battery in New Westminster BC. |
It began decades ago when, lacking a cannon, the soldiers used to launch an anvil to mark the Victoria Day celebrations. |
@RayfordSteele: "Are we allowed to drop it?" |
Only if you're standing underneath it while holding an absurdly tiny umbrella |
For those unable to attend the anvil in person, a first-person anvil-slammer game will be developed, most of the development effort being devoted to providing satisfactory force-feedback controls. |
