“Alright, but you people remember, baby turtles and alligators may seem like a cute idea for a pet, but they grow up.” – Rex Banner, Acting Springfield Police Chief

Unfortunately, many snake owners in Florida did not heed Mr. Banner's advice and released their pets into the wild once they were too large to house. Now, there is an ecological disaster as gigantic Burmese Pythons prowl the Everglades with no natural predators.

Fortunately, the design of walking robots has advanced to the point where machines can mimic the gaits of real animals [link]. If such a robot were dressed in a deer skin, it might look realistic enough to fool a hungry python. Once ingested, the robot would emit a GPS signal so that pest control workers could extract it from the snake's belly and redeploy it.

       "The robot will use a cellular telephony signal to indicate its location derived from GPS", shirley ?

       Actually transmiting on the GPS carrier frequency, other than for DGPS precision augmentation, is very bad and wrong.

       Also, we doubt if a GPS antenna/receiver will function from inside a python, or any other live reptile. You could, however, use an alarm clock, and listen for the ticking; apparently that works with crocodiles.

       // no natural predators //

       If you can start a fashion in Japan for Everglades wild python meat, pretty soon they'll be harpooned to extinction.

       A GPS antenna/receiver might not //function from inside a python//, but a properly sharpened antenna need not be deployed to a great distance to obviate this shortcoming.

       As long as the axis of protrusion is directed perpendicular to the long axis of the bot, and at least somewhat in the direction of "up", it is likely that said appendage would not only enable communication, but also insure that the bot would be found still entrained within its host, rather than in a pile of python excreta.

       Can it hack the python to bits from the inside once ingested?

       That was my first thought as well.
