Add a sorting mode "random" that does what it says - picks random ideas - they could be further sorted / grouped by date [or, at least month], category [like the overview], filtered by have-i-voted-on-it, score, or anything else, or just be a list of random ideas.
Random Idea

[contracts], while the site has a feature that returns a single random idea at a time, that is not what the idea here proposes. Rather, this idea is to display a *list* of random ideas and, perhaps, with some filtering or constraints applied to narrow the types of random ideas listed. |
Well I don't think it's "Baked," but I do think the existing functionality is more than sufficient for my needs to make an additional view unnecessary. You just like being contrary ;-) |
I had to turn it over a few times too, before I decided it was probably a worthwhile feature. Have a rand(croissant). |
oops - my mouse slipped i just accidentally deleted someone's annotation... there should be a confirmation screen for that - or maybe just require two clicks |
sorry (whoever it was - my browser didn't cache the page - i think it was [bristolz] but not sure) |
Yeah, it was me, you bumbling fool ;-) |

All I had written was: "No, on the contrary, I like being precise." in response to [contracts]. |
I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try creating a search that included some arbitrary search (i.e. contains the letter 'a') and then sort by the number of occurances of that search. |
Once you've found you're going through the same old ideas, try looking for those that contain a different character or characters. |
I'd be interested to learn if it works - and if I try it out will post my results. |
I like this. Often when I click random, I only read the title before knowing it's likely an idea I don't want to waste my time on, and click random again. Having a whole view would let me click on only those ideas with titles that draw me in. Alternatively, I could set up a view with the terms "naked" "custard" and "Yay!". |
I think I'd get seasick quickly on anything with a randomized list. |
I've linked a list I tried out, but it does suffer from favouring verbose and/or highly anno'd ideas. |
Well, [Desert Fox], you seem to have found a pre-existing idea that is much like this one. It was a good idea then and now. |
[DesertFox], my idea is specifically for a sorting mode - so i could have for example a random overview (three random ideas in each major category) - I do like that idea, though, and if implemented it might be good enough |
My personal problem with the random feature is that many of the ideas that appear are many years old and everything worth saying has been said about them. A seperate random function that only searches through vaguely recently posted/annotated ideas would be useful. |
Damn you, I posted this all by myself, and I would have gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddlin' kids. |
It's still a good idea [dbmag]. All that fancy viewage I was talking about is fine for a one-off - but it would be really nice to be able to refresh a view, and be presented with a new, randomly selected sample.[+] |
