The above example would be for over 40 annotations.
People could see at a glance that there's a very long and
possibly interesting discussion going on at a particular
post. It
would be up to the poster to update it.
I see that the idea of putting an anno number indicator
has
been suggested
but not adopted, probably because Jutta
has a life. However I think it would be a neat idea
because
the HB discussions are as interesting as the ideas and it
might be nice to see where everybody was gathering at a
glance.
I know I'd gravitate towards the posts with the most
discussions to see what everybody was talking about.
If people like this idea maybe I'll start doing it.

Did this thing post? I'm not seeing it. |
Check your view settings to see if Halfbakery ideas
are excluded for some reason? |
I'm not seeing any view settings anywhere. Where
would I find that? It also seems to be in bold font on
my list of ideas for some reason. |
No reason it shouldn't show up on a signed-in "recent" screen. The bolded posts are those less than a week(?) old. |
Who are you and what have you done with the real [doctorremulac3] ? We have ways of making you gawk, you know. |
Buwwaaaahahahahahaa! Seems my little ruse has
fooled them all! The first step of my plan is
complete. |
Wait, did I think that or write it? |
I just didn't see the other suggestion, I think. |
The true degree of interesting discussion on an
idea is probably a mix of # of annotations and
when they happened. The people who wrote and
run reddit probably understands this metric very
well. |

Arabian numerals are easier to deal with in the
layout than the unary system you propose. |
When the owner of an idea changes the title
frequently, they make it near impossible to link to
it, or find it with search engines -- so I don't like
this particular version. But having a way of
going to things that have a lot of discussion, or a
lot of recent discussion, on them makes sense to
me. |

Wow, an honor to hear from you Jutta. As I've said
before, this is the only social posting site
worth my time. Thank you for a great website. |
Yea, if you could figure out some way to do it, that
would be pretty cool. Like I said, if you see a big
crowd of people it's only natural to want to go over
and see what all the commotion is about. |
Maybe some kind of mark in the "summary" window? |
There's a highly configurable interface to the
halfbakery that lets you filter stuff by a number of
criteria and display a number of little details of
the things you've filtered. That's where this kind
of thing would go. |
When you're in a normal list view (like your
"recent" three-column "overview"), there's usually
an "edit" link somewhere on top that you can click
to go to a version of the view editor that has
presets just like the view you were in. You can
modify those settings and save the new view
under a new name, or even make it your default
halfbakery front page. This has been around for a
long time, but people don't usually notice it being
there (that's by design). |
Thank you, I'll play around with that. |
^ dunno dude, right off the bat 12-women-football and coal-gas-only are ideas I'd like to see un-adulterated. |
Meanwhile everybody that reads our stuff does so through the homepage, or by category or from Google, not from the account page... except other HB'ers and stalkers. |
I have on my page an "Ego Wall" View link which shows posts as ranked by other people. Just change the relevant part of the URL to the obvious for your own version. [edit: whoops, actually it's the non-obvious "fu=" parameter that has to be changed to whatever the user account# is, the "t=" parm is just the page title] |
Yeah it'd be nice to pretty up the account page a bit, make it into a personal intellectual art gallery with certain posts on their own plinths etc. (I've had Notepad open for a week now, putting my shiny baubles into display categories, just out of boredom and anal-retentiveness) |
On my own housekeeping front I had two posts that were m-f-d fodder except I wanted to retain the discussions. So I changed their categories to halfbakery:archive, to retain the annotations for in-house archeologists, while keeping the posts off the public roster. |
Thanks yourself: I just added a small personal portfolio gallery view, based on what you did with yours. |
