A basic GPS receiver that has a photovoltaic charger and a "clockwork" generator built in. Needs no external power. Crank the handle for five minutes and it tells you where you are. Or just leave it in the sun (if any)*.

* Not suitable for Scotland.

       So, a GPS receiver, but just add solar power? Quiet, in Swindon, is it?

       Yes, but they're not integrated. Extra kit to lug around and get damaged or lost, fiddly cables, the works.

       I like this - the solar panel will encourage you to move out from under foliage, where the GPS doesn't work very well.
