Safe Drivers Lottery

Good drivers unite!

This is a simple way to encourage safer driving.

All drivers are automatically entered into a special lottery. This lottery is paid for with money from tickets, and it is free to enter, as long as you have a driver's license.

Each state has x amount of winners per month, depending on the population.

The better the driver you are, the more chances there are of you winning. The longer you go without getting any sort of ticket, traffic fine, or accident; your chances of winning increase even more. Also, the better you drive, the more you win, too.

If you get tickets, your chance of winning goes down. DWI's make it even harder to win. If you land in jail for more than a couple of days, you cannot win for 3 months.

Prizes will be in the 10,000 to 100,000 dollar range.

This could be modified for ordinary life, such as the Safe Citizens Lottery, too.

Where I'm from, photo radar is constantly being criticized as a cash cow. I like the idea of speeding tickets (or parking, or whatever) paying for good drivers. Overall I like this +

Paying people to obey the rules by rewarding them with higher economics status? Those who stay in line get more money? What about those who know they will not win and how they feel about those who could? Like car racing, angst-ridden teenagers feel toward their parents or grandparents who "could strike it rich"? Interesting idea though. If it was funded by a non-profit I would support it, but not as it stands. Go fish.

       ?????
There is a clear cut difference between conformity and safety.

Don't you think it's a good idea to encourage people to stay in line on the highway? I hope the guy next to me stays in line. And the angst ridden teens might drive more carefully in order to maintain their eligibility for prizes, or restore it after a ticket.

DesertFox: re the line //The better the driver you are, the more chances there are of you winning// Do you mean that you get extra entries in the monthly drawing for each (time period here) of safe driving? Or do you mean that because you will be in the drawing month after month, you will accumulate more opportunities to win over time? Either way, have a bun. Eat it after you park.

I'd rather see a lottery/reward scheme for those who don't drive at all.

I don't drive, but this would definitely make me get a licence. And still not drive.

You've got to be in it to win it, as they say.

//There is a clear cut difference between conformity and safety//

And people are crossing it apparently our we wouldn't need this idea. I an speaking more to how a government can enforce it's rules, not individual judgement.

//And the angst ridden teens might drive more carefully in order to maintain their eligibility for prizes, or restore it after a ticket.//

And they might not be reasonable at all. If parents use this idea to pressure their kids (some would), some of those kids might not like it and act out. Like teenagers are known to do.
