Sometimes you're on a support website, like the phone company's or Microsoft's or whatever, after hours of frustration trying to solve a problem. On the page with the info is some dumb ad for that very service, showing an oversmiley, overcheerful, aren't-everyday-people-wonderful, I-love-my-life, busy happy person (or family).

Grrr. I am not in the mood to see them right now.

It would be nice if my web browser toolbar had a "HIDE PEOPLE" button that uses developing face-recognition technology to blur out the smiling faces on any page. So I can concentrate on my problem in peace.

Sorry to be a curmudgeon.

Firefx add-on - Image Show/Hide https://addons.mozi...S/firefox/addon/232
Toolbar button to do that very thing. (Not specific to smiley faces, of course.) It'll make your pages load faster, too, I'm sure. [DrCurry, May 05 2008]

Easy enough to zap all images, I'd've thought.

Yeah but what if the "solution" is presented in the form of images?
phundug, May 05 2008

You're screwed. Especially if the "solution" is smiling.

can I have this in real-life ?... I don't do mornings and meeting smiley people means I either have to get up the energy to match their smug smileyness or the energy to growl convincingly.

Rather than blur the faces, it should be able to replace the smiles with scowls and make the eyes a bit narrow and hung-over looking.

Yet another argument for Lynx (he says, using K-Meleon).

With Opera, you can just turn images off and on with a single click.
