Although electronics keep getting
smaller, cell phones can't really get
much smaller and still have a usable
keypad, much less be comfortable to
use and difficult to mislay.
This would be a phone with the
keypad and antenna integrated into a
slap bracelet like those that were
popular
in the 1980's.
(For the uninitiated, this is a
chunk of fairly stiff material that (like
a tape measure) seeks either a long,
flat, concave shape or a curled-up
shape. So you "slap" it against
your wrist to put it on)
There would be a small rigid section
in the middle that would house the
display, chips, and battery. The
microphone would be at one end
(with the keypad buttons above), and
a small speaker would be at the other
end.
The phone could double as a digital
watch when on your wrist.

I believe they can if you're willing to forgo the screen. I remember reading an article on disposable mobiles. They were very thin and credit card shaped, but didn’t have any particularly useful features, no memory etc. Battery life would be a problem I imagine as well, assuming you wanted this to be rechargeable and offer a practical amount of talk time. |

Piezoelectric inserts. Deforming the bracelet to or from your wrist (as was THE thing to do in the 80s, constantly, over and over and OVER AND OVER.....) would power a small set of cells within the edge of the device. |

Could it be voice activated? A docking station could provide the means to add in your address book and link the phone numbers to voice commands. |

It could be a blue tooth headset with the main unit in your pocket or backpack. I like it because the grasp you use to take off a bracelet is the same one you use to hold a phone, so no shifting of your hand to answer the phone, just one smooth motion. would battery life be a problem if a head set is not being charged by the main unit? |
