Short cylinder, turned so that the axis is horizontal. 1/8 filled with water. Axis is geared such that the cylinder turns several ("several" quantity to be determined by testing) times for each foot of drop (see related idea). Fun-seeker climbs into device, and the device is released. It begins to turn and achives a significant angular velocity while the swim trunked individual is coasting along on a wave of water inside.

(added later) The cylinder is clear, and begins several hundred feet in the air. Both rate of falling and angular velocity increases as it falls, ending with a splash in a pool below. The spinning drum sprays water from the pool on those waiting in line, and also serves to stop the drum from spinning.

(?) Like this... http://www.geocitie...e/squirrelcage.html
only without the stairs, with a swim suit, with water, and going down. [Worldgineer, Oct 04 2004, last modified Oct 21 2004]

[FJ] must really inspire me. Anyway, I think this is significantly different than the Roller Surfer. If others disagree let me know. Either way, thanks for reminding me of it [waugs], I enjoyed that idea.

Now if you put a fish in there to see if it could raise the cylinder by swimming towards the right...

Not to be a pain, World... but it could be argued that the only difference in design is the shape of the 'slide'. Where you use the inside of a cylinder, FJ uses an inverted funnel sort of affair. Which is really just a flanged-out cylinder, if you think about it.

Is a rotating cylinder topologically equivalent to a precessing cone?
AO, Sep 22 2003

[waugs] no pain felt. There's also the slowly falling thing, which I was imagining as a feature. See new details in description.

       [AO] no.
