Stained Glass Vents

The problem with stained-glass windows....

Is that they dont open. They are beautiful, yes, but you can't open them (I have never, ever, ever, seen an openable stained-glass window).

I was sitting in the car staring at the vents, when a practical solution hit me smack between the eyes.

It hurt.

The solution was, make stained-glass windows like car AC vents, where portions of the glass rotate to let air through. I remember seeing this done with some regu;ar glass (I think), and I think this effect would be much prettier with stained-glass, because of the separations between colors would make it really neat.

the reflections/refractions would be so interesting.

Odd: I was just in a church which had stained glass vented windows. But that is still an interesting alternative solution.

Careful with those practical solutions that come at you at full throttle. You're lucky it didn't kill you!

Do you mean louvered stained glass? It might work but I don't know how nice it'll look, as it might distort the art a bit.

Not pivot windows, more like jalousie. :)

I have never seen a jalousie Stained Glass Window.

Watching the different "rainbows", that we see on our entry way, depending on the time of day, I think this is one of the most intriquing ideas I have seen here in a long time. There are stained glass windows that open, usually downwards in chuches, but what I think you are alluding to is the cool effects, not the cooling effects.

Just imagine if you went to the 8am service you could be bathed in blues, and burgandys. If you went to the 10am, on the same day, you might be alit with the glow of purple, and golds.

(Having checked out the links, I double my kudos).

If they were tipped outwards and sideways, you might just be driving down the street past the church/syn/temple, and in your rear view mirror, you might see amazing colors on the street behind you.

       Brilliant, D.F., and welcome back.

Maybe better idea would be to leave the windows alone and use some existing vent designs on top or on side of the windows?
