Standardized colours for door handles

Green for in, red for out
  [vote for,

Know if you're in danger of being hit by the door or trapped by force of bodies behind you. Enforced by fire code.

Added bonus if handles change their shade if someone on the opposite side is touching the handle.

eh..... does it not depend on which side of the door you are positioned as to which is "in" and which is "out"? Do you mean "push" or "pull"?
xenzag, May 12 2013

Subject to [xen]'s comment above, [+]. Green for push (because you can keep going in whatever direction you were going anyway) and red for pull (because you have to stop and back up).

But only on emergency exits. There's enough enforced functionality in buidings already.
MaxwellBuchanan, May 12 2013

Blue for pull (because it's coming towards you) and red for push (because it's moving away from you). Green for non-moving objects.

By having translucent handles, with an LED light, accelerometer and humidity gauge, additional information can be conveyed.

Different blink rates of the light for - "the door tends to get stuck at about ...degrees of opening", "It's wedged in the doorframe due to high humidity,it's a bugger to open", "behind this door lives someone grumpy, who likes slamming it a lot".

       A. Writing off Color blind ?

       B. Stop signs and stop lights are red.

Having just returned from Helsinki, I can report that the handles and push-plates in public buildings are, by law, coloured yellow on the way out and blue on the way in.

Yes, but revolving doors are illegal.

Do I detect some slight slip on the Buchanan mansion architectural plans, that coupled with a faulty metric to imperial calculation, means the east wing dining room ended up in Helsinki?
not_morrison_rm, May 12 2014

^ Perusing a coffee-table book on Max's estate (vol XXI), I think the east-wing dining room isn't a part of, so much as the founder of, Helsinki.
FlyingToaster, May 12 2014

Vol XXI is part of the first series, which is long out of date and superceded. You should donate it to a charity shop and get the latest edition. I think it is available pre-loaded on a HDD array, for those whose broadband isn't fast enough to access the online version.

//Do I detect some slight slip on the Buchanan mansion architectural plans, that coupled with a faulty metric to imperial calculation, means the east wing dining room ended up in Helsinki?//

No, we didn't want a place that was too large to hoover. Of course we have places in Finland (not least because the intercalary twin loves reindeers, though we keep that quiet), but not directly connected to our main shack.

// the latest edition// does indeed cover all Buchanan estate properties, at least up to about 2012 (and hence omits the Turks and Caicos).
