A magnetic ring embedded in the pavement. Metal trashcan will stick to this, keeping said can still even in wind. Now if we can just get the trash collectors to put the can back upright...

In either (both) idea(s), was hoping for a solution to the soda can on generic tray problem.
theircompetitor, Dec 03 2004

Too bad aluminum doesn't stick to magnets, or this could work for that as well.

dentworth, Dec 08 2004

       my cans are all plastic.

We'll have to buy new cans. Or install a metal ring to the bottoms.
Worldgineer, Dec 08 2004

You know, once you get used to it, this isn't all that uncomfortable. I could be here for a while and be OK with it.
normzone, Jul 31 2007

On the edge of your seat? That reminds me...

This would be really useful if, for instance, an LA bus was hurtling down a road, at a speed consistently over 50 - never less - and accidentally collided with a pedestrian's pram, which had previously been filled entirely with cans. Good thing it wasn't full of babies! Phewee! It was cans! It's just cans! Ease down, ease down.

<softly> Just cans, ease down. </softly>
theleopard, Jul 31 2007

// LA bus was hurtling down a road, at a speed consistently over 50 //

Or a Craggy Island milk float hurtling down a road, at a speed consistently over 4...
Jinbish, Jul 31 2007

<keanu> It's OK Nigel! We missed Mrs Higgins, and her pet tortoise. Just ease down. Easy, calm down, we're doing over 6! You're just grinding metal, ease down. Ease down. </keanu>
