Vets are for vetting

Medical doctors for conservation of human life and certificated Veterinarians for euthanasia.

Let's face it, a vet (veterinarian) should know if an animal is in pain or distress and needs to be put down, even if they can't communicate. So, if after a few more checks and some extra certificates, why not make the veterinarian (or two) the signatory on the human animal's euthanasia procedure.

Medical doctors have the conflict of preserving human life where as Vets have a bit more freedom in dealing with animals, and fundamentally, we are all animal (Although, some have/will have implanted, embedded or attached tools). This isn't to say the administering Vet won't consult with psychologists or doctors if specialist knowledge is needed.

So if you want to leave this mortal coil and have good reason, go get vetted.

I was hoping this idea was going to advocate using vets (veterinary doctors) to treat animals, and vets (military veterans) for when the animals needed euthanasia.

The vets would have to be vetted first.

Humanity will make a great step forward when it accords to humans the dignity and compassion it shows to companion animals.

[hippo]I thought your idea might be a good idea but how many vets ( veterans ) came out of that awful energy flux not broken?([max]'s indication) As an animal, I rather go to a wise old ,lived, farm veterinarian for my out clause. Or are you thinking some sort of rehab?

I don't understand that. Are you saying that veterinarians can be a bit more cavalier with their own species' lives because they normally treat other species, with whose lives they can be a bit more cavalier?

More that vets occupy the moral high ground over medics because they aren't obsessed with sustaining life at the expense of the welfare of the patient.

Vets won't euthanaze a healthy animal, but that situation is very rare. More often the problem with companion animals is persuading the owner that it's time to let go. Livestock has a defined financial value. If the cost of treatment exceeds that, better to cut your losses.

[notexactly] Medical doctors need not be conflicted by the task because caring veterinarians can oversee the process, is the crux of the idea.
