I have a 3d print of an electron micrograph of a feline
calcivirus. It has dodecahedral symytry i think. but when
wing it around my fingers can feel, like in a pine cone,
that the fronds of the virus are arranged in an
pattern between spirals. The paths your fingers follow
across the virus tells you how it eats and fights and how
was formed by a coallition of 5 simpler beings, or a 5
archetype family of a complex molecule that was one
of complexity below the virus.
This 3d print could be enlargended to the size of a
ball, made spongey and adaptive and used as a toy / tool
for adults with cognitive disabilities to be able to share a
common, cognitively accessible langauge.
The web and tech and silicon and electricity is pulling us
up into our sight and hearing and away from our felt
presence of immediate experience. This kind of math is
cognitive standard that is accessible to everyone.
So I guess the idea would be for a toy that is shaped like
one of these simple geometric viruses at a scale at which
people can easily interact with the surface of the virus
with their fingers, and then a set of 10 pins shaped like i
dont know maybe people? or pins shaped like other
geometric molecular-level phenomena.
