I like it when it rains. The smell of rain on hot concrete, the soothing sounds of water beating down on the roof of your house, the gallons of water reaching twards the grass so I can enjoy it all. The water awning would require special roof fittings to help catch and channel as much water as possible to a point roughly 6 to 10 feet across. This focus of the run-off water would then be channeled over a ramp or scoop to allow the water to be projected in a sheet away from the house, thus providing an area of light rainfall, or gentle sprinkles to enjoy the rainy day. This would require a pretty steep roof pitch and a large, smooth surface to allow the water to gain enough speed to project itself far enough. The Water Awning could also be useful for gardening close to the home. As the rate of precipitation increases, the water would be projected farther and farther from the house.

So this is like a fountain for the house? I can imagine it shooting in an arc past a large window into a pond.

(hint to [po] - mid morning for you should work fine)

It must be nice to see rain as quaint and joyful. Croissant dispite my envy towards your sunny weather conditions!

world, I could not be that cruel!

2 hours later might be even more fun.

I can't imagine a rainfall that would be heavy enough for this to work properly (a very large roof channelling all the runoff to a fairly small portion -might- work), but [+] for the visual.

Isn't this more commonly called a waterfall?

<obligatory>Won't it look like the house is "wizzing"?</obligatory>

Whizzing into you're neighbor's chimney ... I know it wouldn't be possible, but it would look funny!

Very nice, fort. And with the right sort of reservoir system you could make it rain at your house all day.

Had a childhood home in SC that functioned this way in heavy summer rain. A sheet of rain could enclose the entire porch. The light it created was magical. *sigh* +

We have this exact function just above our front door, but it's due to a piece of broken guttering rather than anything else. Living in a city where rain is the norm, I find it hard to imagine people *wanting* this but chacun à son goût as they say across the channel*

       *English channel, not Bristol.

As an add-on you could place colored lights at the lip of the scoop, and at night enjoy red, blue, orange, or multi-colored sheets of water. Well done, [World] I didn't see that idea in my search ...

I think a pleasant view is really wonderful when I'm at home and there have been times the view was not worth viewing... this could serve as sort of an "outside of window" curtain to insure an always pleasant view.

[Qnow] A fountain of regurgitated pondwater filled with the guano of overfed fish and reptiles. That must smell nice...
