Undergraduate, secondary school projects that get students to find problems in their school. The problems are then written up with a project management solution including costings. These could be as small as removing some graffiti, fixing a hole or window, to the upgrading of a court yard landscape or repairing a retaining wall. Even just cataloging and ordering spare stored resources could count.

Projects could then be vetted and actioned, carrying the pupils' involvement to the next stage.

Hopefully after a decade or so, the school would have projects getting rarer and rarer with pupils having a greater attachment to 'their' school. Parent involvement could also add to this holistic socialism.

Maybe then, the next level of geeks will know how to fix an elevator.

A vocational school I attended for awhile, students regularly participated in some of the day-to-day operations and maintenance. Not really a new idea.

[FlyingToaster],[2 fries..] Did it really cement the emotional tie to the school or was it just a workbook to get through?

Dunno really, nothing to compare it to; it was just "school" to me.
