shoulder mech

to pilot it from outside

on most mechas it seems the pilot is on the inside ,either having the mech follow their movements or the pilot just driving it around, but still mostly inside it . v normally when riding a horse people are roughly on the top,but mechas are sort of humanoid, so the pilot could go on its shoulders;maybe its head could be swept forward and the neck could be in a motorbike style, with controls on the back of the head

In the Patlabor Anime series, the pilots are in sort of open cockpits on top, rather than inside.

Is it me or would this be suicidal for the pilot? If the mech got hit by anything doing splash damage he would be incinerated/ vaouprised/ perforated by shrapnel.

It would be more interesting if it had a huge, detachable Mecha-parrot on its shoulder.

In Patlabor, except for the police versions, they're not combat mechs, they're just cranes with legs.

Would be suicidal for a combat mech's pilot, though.

There already is a mech that has a shoulder-mounted cockpit (if you follow the Mechwarrior/Battletech series): it's called a Thor.

Well in Patlabor, they also have dedicated combat labors -- there are some in the beginning of the 2d movie.

However, why have a cockpit at all? Giant Robo seems to work just fine given instructions via a special wristwatch. (and weirdly enough the kid who controls it rides along all the time and does fine)

Where oh where is the Japanese fetish site for mechs where the operators are in ... other parts of the body?

this is similar to my piggyback bot and chicken fight bot ideas only on a larger scale.

Normally, I would never mention the third Matrix movie in polite conversation; but the battle mechs in it had drivers riding in open cockpits. Not quite on the shoulders, however.

hey, not enough detail, but i like this idea, the cockpit would have be armored, i doubt shoulder wolud work, and cameras would provide a view to the outside world. the mech would have to be co-ordinated with the piolet's movements, special sensors would help dictate the movements, so on and so forth...

What if you had 2 pilots one on each shoulder, you could Dress one with Wings and the other with Horns and it could be the consience(sp) Mech. You would neve know how it was going to respond.
jhomrighaus, Mar 26 2006

How about we design a weapon system that doesn't have such a high profile, and thusly, has less a chance of being hit? Oh wait, tanks...

Wait, screw that. Tanks can't swing lazer swords.
