I was sitting on the toilet the other day without a care in the world, generally day dreaming...Suddenly an idea hit me! The similarity of toilet roll tubes to early recording storage medium is uncanny. Well it’s cylindrical…

Anyway, without too much imagination it is not hard to imagine toilet roll tubes, made out of a vinyl like substance, with a musical score recorded in a groove running around the circumference of the inner surface. Once attached to a compatible toilet roll holder all manner of musical cacophony can be dispensed.

A button would be placed on the holder which the user presses to dispense both toilet roll and music. Obviously, the turns of the groove would have to be quiet tight, in order to dispense a recognisable amount of music in relation to the amount of paper.

Instead of supplying the holder with an external power source it is much easier to devise a spring mechanism, which is reset every time a new roll is put into the holder; perhaps bar is slid across, winding a spring.

It adds another dimension of choice to toilet paper purchase. How will the confused shoppers cope?

Similar to half's link, but still not like the idea. http://cgi.ebay.ca/...9721&category=32876

Maybe simplify and use a modified music box {ahem} movement with the cylinder made inside out?

Or punch holes in the paper so that it can actuate notes on a tiny player piano?

If the medium could be written on as well as read, you could use a laptop computer to download mp3s onto the roll while you are "downloading" into the toilet.

I suppose it would be a good idea to sell blank rolls for personal recording. Perhaps a toilet roll to take on business breaks with a message from a loved one...
