It's precipitating felines and canines, and your umbrella doesn't fold up over the door very handily. Thankfully, you sprung for the optional pop-out umbrella anti-weather and somewhat effective theft deterrent system. A button or button combination on your keyfob unlocks the folding umbrella, which
pops out of the top of the door pillar. As you open the door, the umbrella opens and lifts, covering the area beside the door as well as inside it's open position. Slam the door shut, and the umbrella retracts again.
No wet T-shirt contest today. Although I'm certain your coworkers would've been thrilled. But now you're thinking you should've spent the extra few dollars to tie the system in with the rain-sensitive wiper sensor...
The Rolls-Royce Umbrella

Car Umbrella
Car_20Umbrella Not the same thing at all, although it could be repurposed. [DrCurry, Mar 10 2006]
As long as it's compatible with this idea

[+] for the idea, but I think canceling the wet tea shirt contest was a bad thing. |

Not quite the same thing, but the new Rolls-Royce Phantom has an umbrella hidden in a compartment in each passenger door so it can be whisked out and used when you open the door. The umbrella is teflon coated to let the rain drip off it easily, and there are drainge channels in the door so it can be stored wet. |

[hippo] Also in the Skoda Superb! |

I'm sure I've seen this in the Maybach or something but I can't seem to find it. Might have been a concept car thing. |

I suppose if you have gull-wing doors, you don't have this problem in the first place. |

[coprocephalous] Yes, but the Rolls-Royce comes with a butler to hold the umbrella over your head for you. |

Only if you leave the window open. |

Its actually the Rolls Royce that has built in umbrellas and a storage area that allows them to drain when wet, but this is much better... |

I voted on this without reading the idea after mis-reading the title as Cat Door Pop-out Umbrellas. It sounds like a cuter idea. But I guess you can keep the [+] as this isn't particularly bad either. |

Ah Skodas. Wish we had 'em here. |

Or, one could simply send the afore-mentioned butler on those errands to places not equipped with covered parking... |
