Instead of having one generic voicemail greeting it would be nice to be able to create custom messages for different situations. When I move into a meeting I can put my phone on vibrate and set the Im in a meeting and will call you right back message message and when Im at the gym I can set it to
Im working out Ill return this call at 7:00. When this option is activated the incoming call is directly transferred to the greeting without the need to go through 5 rings first.

Many corporate systems allow different away messages and can go straight to message. I would be very surprised if there aren't some mobile phones that do this. |

[DrCurry] I've asked and no one i know has heard of it. |
How about the 'i'm not answering the phone because i don't want to talk to you, idiot!' tone? |
I have a slightly older Samsung with a
built-in voice mail. It can choose
between the factory recorded message
or one I record myself. I can also set it
to answer immediately or after a few
seconds. This bypasses the network
voicemail. So, mostly baked. |
[keefe42] no its not baked at all. can you keep both the factory message and your personal message active? I did'nt think so. |
I'm wondering why you would want to actually tell someone exactly what you were doing? I'd rather say, " I'm flying to Hawaii, having an affair with an undisclosed recipient, and will call you back whenever I get a chance. Thank you." |
[nomadic wonderer] If by 'active' you
mean 'stored in the phone's memory for
later access' then, yes, it does. You can
store one personally recorded message
and the factory message remains stored
as well. (The factory message is simply
"Please record at the tone", which is too
dull to use anyway) Is your idea to have
a large number of prerecorded
messages to choose from in a menu? It
is fairly easy to record a new message
on my phone, so this could be done
almost as quickly as choosing one that
already in memory. Therefore, I still
contend at least partial bakedness. |
[keefe42]yup. i mean voicemail greetings with a menu. |

My phone lets you play different voice messages depending upon the caller's number. If I'm going into class or a movie and have to shut my phone off I might leave a particular message for someone I'm expecting a call from, but otherwise I don't bother. |
The phone will also hold multiple outgoing voice messages and you could change it depending on what you're doing, but I would never bother. |
