Following up on the popularity of shoes that flash with every step, I propose a shirt that flashes every time your heart beats. It has a couple of electrodes in contact with the chest to sense the heart beat, and a red LED incorporated into a heart-shaped design on the front.
Sort of like this, but not really

How electrodes sense a heartbeat
http://www.cardioli...ctrocardiogram.shtm for [jutta] - "The body is a good conductor of electricity because tissue fluids contain a high concentration of ions that move (creating a current) in response to potential differences. Potential differences generated by the heart are thus conducted to the body surface where they can be recorded by surface electrodes placed on the skin." Sorta similar

Aw, sweet. I think it should be the sleeve that flashes, though, not the front. |
|
|
(Didn't someone else do a heartbeat LED one time? Can't find it now.) |
|
|
will it pitter patter like mad when you catch sight of your loved one? |
|
|
Guess you will be able to tell those who are having a heart attack easliy. |

Why stop there? Little smoke generators near underarms that are sweat-triggered. A glowing :-) when you smile. A <sproing> noise when you jump in the air. I want a shirt that does all of this. Well, not the smoke generator part. |

On a related matter, though, this could lead to some dangerous games / contests. |

I could always use more electrodes. + |

An array of acoustic sensors focused (through phase delays) on the heart area and filtered to isolate heartrate frequencies could also work. The transducers could be piezoelectric or electrostatic. Then the electrical contact with skin would not be necessary. We built an experimental acoustic heart monitor that worked from about 2 feet away from the chest when I was at SRI many years ago. I can see this as a great sports monitor. |

Why not add a few other sensors for breathing rate and skin resistance and make it into a full polygraph (Although calibration might be difficult). Then the shirt could light up red when you lie (maybe with buzzers) and green when you tell the truth. It would make a dull party really fun if everyone wore one. |

Smoke generators in the ear canal
(similar to earbud headphones),
with a small fan to blow the smoke
outwards. Wire it up to the
medulla oblongata and watch
smoke come out of your ears when
you're mad. |
