Joke Clock

Give the gift that frustrates
  [vote for,

A triangular clock that displays everything upside down. It's triangular to make it impossible (or at east frustratingly difficult) to turn upside down to make the display show rightside up.

(note: this is not a hanging clock)

Right. Buy a triangular clock, open it up, rotate the dial 180 deg.

I should try it next time I am shopping for a gift.
neelandan, Oct 09 2007

I had to read it a couple of times before I got it.

You should specify that it is not a hanging clock.
BJS, Oct 09 2007

Variation: leave it round (like a normal clock), but distribute its weight close to the rim on top, causing it to only be stable upside down.
jutta, Oct 09 2007

Thanks, BJS, I meant to mention that. Jutta, not a bad idea...
21 Quest, Oct 09 2007

Needs a better name to do it justice.... +
xenzag, Oct 09 2007

Well, the joke's on you, [21], because I put my clock on my night shelf above my bed, and I sleep on my back.
phundug, Oct 09 2007

I usually fall outta bed when the alarm goes off, hence it would be perfect for me!+
blissmiss, Oct 09 2007

Bun for [jutta]'s idea. I like manipulating the center of gravity on everyday objects.
ed, Oct 09 2007

Yes, build this and market it, Ill have 3

evilpenguin, Oct 09 2007

I did this once with a digital alarm clock. I opened the case turned the LED's 180 degrees and put it back together. Nobody got the joke and the thing ended up getting thrown out
evilpenguin, Oct 09 2007

A combination, perhaps: A triangular clock with the "guts" gimballed loosely inside, so that whatever side you choose, the clock face swings back to upside down.

GutPunchLullabies, Oct 09 2007

Ooh... gimballing the guts... I like it.
21 Quest, Oct 11 2007

Then how about this: the gimbal is locked, except at 3:00 AM every day.

"Who keeps flipping my !@##$% clock?!?!?!nterroban?
GutPunchLullabies, Oct 11 2007

GP, I thought *I* had an evil imagination!
21 Quest, Oct 11 2007

       Nice idea.

       //(note: this is not a hanging clock)//

Maybe I don't understand, but what prevents someone from hanging it if they want to?

I like GPL's varation, since it makes that a moot point.

//Maybe I don't understand, but what prevents someone from hanging it if they want to? //

Originally, I was thinking to simply have a solid, stainless steel casing with beveled edges to make it impossible to attach a hook and too heavy for adhesive hooks. But you're right, I think the gimballing of the guts is a better idea... Hell, combine the two!
21 Quest, Oct 14 2007

       I prefer !nterroban?
GutPunchLullabies, Oct 15 2007

It gets the point across even to the uninitiated
GutPunchLullabies, Oct 15 2007

       What's "interroban" mean?
21 Quest, Oct 15 2007

It's a question mark and exclamation mark rolled into one.
jtp, Oct 15 2007

I see... is it Spanish? Sounds like it, but it's been so long so took Spanish classes I've forgotten most of it.
21 Quest, Oct 15 2007

       Title suggestion:

       "The Heavy Hands of Time."
4whom, Oct 15 2007

You would want the numbers gimballed too, to protect them in upright position. It seems sort of coarse to have the digits all slanty and kittywumpus.
bungston, Oct 15 2007

Instead of all this gimballing madness, why not put weight and a scale inside to determine which way is up, and then have a digital readout that changes as you turn it, even if the point is in some way "impossible" (like if I pick it up with my hands and hold it point down).

Or, why not glue it to the mantlepiece/nightstand without the person's permission? Then they have a clock they can't read ruining the finish on their antique tables.
grza, Oct 15 2007

See, grza, that would cross the between a harmless joke and vandalism. I'm not a vandal. I despise vandals.
21 Quest, Oct 15 2007

Make that MOST of the uninitiated ;)

GutPunchLullabies, Oct 18 2007

Hey, if I'd seen the actual symbol I would've figured it out.
