Isn't it just dreadful when you're on your last bite of food but can't seem to scrape it into your fork? The obvious solution would be to use your finger, but that's just total disregard for the laws of etiquette.

The solution to this problem is a plate with a smooth, plastic surface that rises vertically out of the plate at about 1.5" tall and 1" wide. Just slide that notorious last bite over, and the plastic provides as an exellent source of leverage to get the food on to your fork.

(?) Divided Plate http://www.cleanswe.../skugroup10663.html

Chindogu http://www.pitt.edu/~ctnst3/chindogu.html
The primary purpose of the Divided Plate is to prevent the user from consuming a green bean covered in barbeque sauce. It may also assist in providing leverage for the last bite, but, not being its primary purpose, it just does not have the spirit of the Last Bite Plate. You may want to read up on the art of Chindogu... [thesmog, Jul 07 2005]

How does this differ from any make, manufacture or design of divided plate known to anyone who has ever been on a picnic or been served a prison meal? See [link] for the picnic version.

It's the spirit that counts ;) See [link]...

Original Chindogu-style ideas fit right in here, especially if they could be patented...and without regard to how silly, playful, useless or inane they may seem. I'm questioning what makes your concept of a "Last Bite Plate" unique from other well-known readily-available prosaic and patented examples.

       Knife.

       Finger. (Pinky for the genteel)

[jurist], I edited the description to make it more clear to what exactly it is supposed to look like. The small amount of leverage that a divided plate gives you just isn't enough to scoop that last bite up. It will most likely fall into another sector of the plate.

Here they let us have knives.

I have one of these for my kids. The one part of the edge actually goes past vertical so little kids can easily scoop up their food.

Knives could be used.. but what if you don't have that spare hand? Plus, like [maniacal_engineer] implied, kids aren't very proficiant with knives.
thesmog, Jul 08 2005

       Or with spelling.

//I have one of these for my kids.// What he is implying is that this is baked, and only needed by children.

       //Isn't it just dreadful// No.

Deja plate. I've seen this idea before, and a link to an image of a plate with a dorsal fin. They don't show the people who need such a silly thing.

When I googled "last bite plate" I found a bunch of people who say you should leave the last bite on your plate as some kind of diet-symbology-restraint thingy. They are not going to buy this idea at all.

So, if someone isn't proficient, doesn't have a knife or a bit of bread or a spare hand, but must eat every bite, and gives too much of a damn about etiquette but doesn't mind looking a right twit, they might use this plate, if it wasn't such a pain in the dishwasher to clean and store. Me, I'm going to put a fishbone on it.

The plates I hate are those clear, scalloped containers you get a delis and salad bars. Not only do you have to use your finger to finish your meal, you have to swipe each trough individually. Not fun in a room full of people.
