(what? no Halfbakery:Overview category?)

Two ideas really, but they both fit neatly under this name.

First, give me some way to *not* think about HB when I'm not in front of my computer. I realize that the problem is mine and mine alone, but I am forever thinking and talking about HB itself or some idea therein, and I do so to people who have never heard of it, will never come here, and won't ever care. AAH! Shut it off!! *pant, pant*

Second, (and I know that this is ground long gone over already) it would be nice to be able to prevent an idea from hitting the overview page after making changes (in my case, miniscule, pedantic ones). I really, really wish that one of my ideas that presently happens to be on the front page would have never made it back there, but rather stayed quietly in obscurity, with its elegant annotations and its half croissant. Alongside this, maybe a locking feature to ensure that ideas can not get further annotated? Is that too stifling?

Annotation:

On (2), you're at least the second person asking for this feature, so maybe there's something there. Mostly, I don't know how to do this in such a way that it's understandable to people who are still struggling with annotations in general.

Maybe my defaults are just plain wrong. Maybe editing an annotation should never push the idea back to the top; only adding should.

On (3) (ahem), I really like the openness and ability for people to talk back. Is there a specific problem you're trying to solve?

The problem: an idea that has been venerated by good postings and hashings out should be preserved in such a pristine state of completion, regardless of any further creator-or-moderator-only modifications, and not brought to the surface again, so as to avoid unneeded attention. It's a rather selfish notion, I suppose. "This is *my* trophy! You can look, but don't touch!" That's pretty sad, huh? Um, nevermind, I guess... :)
absterge, Mar 29 2001

Erm, please don't do that "hand-edit three other ideas" thing, it tickles.
jutta, Mar 29 2001

Perhaps on the edit screen, just before the "ok" button, there could be a checkbox labelled, "Mark this idea as having been recently changed" or something like that.
PotatoStew, Mar 31 2001

I would much rather not see months-unchanged ides on the 'last 3' screen, myself. But I go directly to 'recent' now because I only see the place every couple of days, and there are too many to show like that...

And Absterge, someone -has- to do it; It's not "it's" in the last paragraph...
StarChaser, Mar 31 2001

Ack, ack, ack! You are absolutely right, StarChaser! I cannot believe I committed such an atrocity! I must have been under caffeinated. It should be correct now! Thank'e.

(thank you, jutta! I see on the news page that this present edit will no longer put this idea on the front page! whee!! *maniacal cackling*)

       <grin>

In accordance with Usenet rule #<Mumble>, every spelling/grammar correction/flame must contain at least one spelling/grammar error, I put '...months-unchanged ides...' instead of ideas...
StarChaser, Apr 02 2001

So, for example, people like me could come along and annotate the idea thereby spoiling the elegant annotations and half croissant.
stupop, May 31 2002

Exactly, stupop. I suppose it's official again, I'm an addict. I'm really relapsing here, and for so long I thought I was all better. As I type, I can feel the temperature of my skin rising, and my hands are sweating. Oh, cursed glory. I *do* have some work that needs doing, but not so desperately that I can refrain from being here. Gah! Make it go away! Please... *whimper*

<Bakifer>You made a pact with the deviled ham inside the magic croissant. Shouting the Bakicarus in the 'bakery while coated with fish blood sealed your fate. Muahahahahahaa</Bakifer>
