It's a big bus or truck fitted with fold-out platforms and awnings on the sides, roof, etc. Inside are more accommodations, a wood-fired or multifuel capable boiler, and kitchen set up for mass production of basic grub e.g. coffee and pancakes, rice, BBQ.

It is mobile as mentioned, so that it can be relocated to where there is demand e.g. music fests, disaster-stricken areas, work sites, expensive housing markets.

Lots of potential side gigs like bike rentals, speakeasy, travel tours, food truck, laundromat. Endless possibilities, but for the Laws of Nature and Man.

       Like a collective camper-van?

       Or like a capitalist camper-van

Many years ago I took The Greyrabbit Bus from San Francisco to New York. There were no seats on the bus, only mattresses from one end to the other. It was filled with long haired hippies, and I was one of them. It was the best bus trip I ever made.

Great idea. Not really new though, past and present variants easy to find, so … bone.

Similar idea: mobile cat hostel. To deploy a population of hundreds of cats to an area. Perhaps RFID technology could help assure all cats are provisioned and accounted for as they wander out and then return, drawn by cat treats. What's not to love about a large group of cats showing up unexpectedly?

A petting zoo would add to the clown-car appeal of the moho, although I was thinking more chickens and goats than cats

Bones should be reserved for bad ideas or wkte ideas.

Just because you found a truck like this doesn't make it wk and definitely not a bad idea. MFD it, and we can discuss. But if you bone it, your just discouraging the inventor.

Sorry for the off topic talk. (Where should that discussion be)

Anyway, I gave it pastry, because I liked the idea, and never saw anything like it, not in real life and not advertised.

I consider [-] to be gentler than [MFD]. The help file specifically says “Use search engines to check whether or not what you're about to invent already exists.” If I can take the idea title or at most a one-line summary to Google and get a reasonable hit on the first try - that tells me 1) The idea is baked, and 2) The baker didn’t bother to check. As for the whinge “Well, *I* never heard of it so it isn’t well known” - I posit that you alone or even a baker’s dozen (a dozen bakers?) are not an adequate sample size.

Those existing mobile hotels seem to based around the business model of booking rich people ahead of time for a tour or whatever. This idea is more about a minimal crew taking the pop-up tent city to someplace where there are already people in need of accommodations. It was inspired by stories of people with houses wrecked by a recent hurricane. It's a terrible business idea, that's why it's here.

A pop-up tent city? I missed that from your original write-up describing a bus or truck with fold out awnings, platforms, etc and accommodations inside. That's pretty much the hardware description of the Truck Surf Hotel even though you have a different use model in mind.

But see also (link) on converted busses as disaster relief shelters.
